ARE
YOU A YOUNG PERSON WHO WILL BE LIVING AT STANMORE HOUSE?
Here
is what you can expect:
- You will have your own
room.
- You'll do the same
sorts
of things you would be doing wherever you lived – going to
school, fun activities, visiting friends, sharing household chores etc
- You'll be living with
up to five other young people aged from 12 to 16
- Youth workers are at
the house all the time to look after you
- You will be
helped to find a permanent place to live. This could be:
- Living with family
or a family member
- Living with a
foster family
- Living in some
other type of place.
When
you go to visit Stanmore House with your worker you will be given a
copy of the Kids Info Booklet –
Stanmore House
which will tell you all about how things work in this
program.
You will also be able to ask questions and check out the place to make
sure you are happy to be living there before you move in.

This
document will help
you to determine if the young person is eligible for referral to
Stretch-A-Family’s Stanmore House program.
Program
Aim
To provide a safe and nurturing residential care environment and to
prepare young people for longer term placement in accordance with that
young person’s Case Plan. Placement options include
- Family restoration
- A Stretch-A-Family
Foster Care placement
- Long Term Residential
Care
- Other community
placements and accommodation option
Young
people in the Stanmore Program
- Are fully cared for by
a team of rostered youth workers, with one worker doing a
‘sleepover’ each night
- Receive educational
support with on site tutoring twice a week
- Receive pocket money
(unless they are in receipt of an income)
- Are expected to attend
a weekly house meeting
- Have the use of a
residents' phone and computer including limited internet access
- Have access to a
Caseworker and a Key worker who work together to help them achieve the
placement goals

Note
Stretch-A-Family is not a crisis
accommodation service. Young people in crisis may be referred but the
referring person will need to make temporary accommodation provisions
for the young person pending assessment.

Medium Term: up to 12 months
Number
& Age of Young People
Stanmore House can accommodate up to 6 young people aged from 12 to 16
years. The age limits may occasionally be extended if appropriate
(especially if sibling groups are involved).

These are outlined in the Protocol and Guidelines for Referral.

Referrals
Referrals are taken by Stanmore Caseworkers on (02)
9569 6933 during business hours. Young people who meet the
eligibility criteria for the program will be invited for a meeting at
Stanmore House, accompanied by their Dept. of Community Services
representative. This gives the young person the opportunity to see the
facilities and ask questions. During this meeting the young people will
also be given a booklet which explains how the program will work with
them to help them meet their long term goals.
